Lukas Kmit began his studies at the Kosice Consevatoire with Vera Lipatova. Followed by bachelor studies at the Royal College of Music in London (Andriy Viytovych) he obtained Masters Performance Diploma from Music University in Zürich, where he studied with Christoph Schiller.
Lukas is prizewinner of several music competitions, such as Premio Geminiani in Verona, Kenneth Page Viola Competition in London or Beethovens Hradec (Czech Republic).
Since student times he participated at various festivals and academies (Mahler Academy Bolzano, Encuentro Santander, Konvergencie Bratislava). He also participated in the Castleton Festival (Washington, USA), performing in the chamber orchestra for Benjamin Britten operas under Lorin Maazel.
In 2011 Lukas won Academy position (Praktikum) in Berner Symphonieorchester, Switzerland and since then he performs regularly with the orchestra. He served as principal viola of Slovak Sinfonietta and worked also in Orquesta de Extremadura (Spain). He performs regularly with various orchestras and ensembles in Switzerland , such as Zuger Sinfonietta or Camerata Schweiz.
An interest in baroque music led to the study of the baroque viola ( courses with Freiburger Baroque Orchestra, EUBO, Schwetzinger Hofmusik-Akademie ) and performances with various ensembles.
